The tree trimming process is simply a correctional process to improve the appearance of a tree and the landscape in general. It involves cutting away or discarding the lower branches of a tree which appear shaggy and overgrown in relation to the rest of the tree. There are a variety of great tree trimming techniques that can help you keep your trees in an excellent shape. Knowing the basics about tree trimming can help you handle a majority of the job without necessarily hiring a tree service company.

You can trim your trees to improve their appearance, health and to eliminate potential hazards that can be caused by dead or hanging branches. Alternatively, you can also hire a tree service company with the expertise to manage tree trimming.

Some of the trees trimming tips are;
  1. Tree a tree during its dormant period. The best season for tree trimming is usually between late winter and early spring. The weather conditions encourage wound healing. Trimming can also be done in other seasons if a hazard exists for emergency purposes.
  2. Don’t trim a branch too close or long. Trimming too close to the trunk might damage the collar while trimming too long will leave a large stub.
  3. Trim branches when they are still young. Young branches are easy to manage as compared to larger ones; this will also reduce the risk of leaving large nasty scars.
  4. Only trim branches that have weak, V-shaped narrow angles. Strong branches with U-shaped angles should be retained.
  5. Never trim a tree close to houses and power lines. This is essential because you will be risking damage to property or even self-injury. In such a situation, it is advisable to hire services from a professional tree service company with the equipment and expertise to handle such a situation.

If you're looking for someone to take care of the tree trimming for you here in Las Vegas. Then call the Las Vegas Tree Trimmers to help.

Tree Pruning For Commercial Businesses

Picture
Often confused with tree trimming, tree pruning is the art of removing tree branches, foliage or leaves exclusively for safety and health purposes in regards to the tree. Commercial tree pruning is done at high-end homes and business properties. Improving the appearance of  trees is sometimes also associated with pruning even though it is the major factor when it comes to tree trimming.

Tree pruning is subdivided into crown thinning, crown lifting, heading back cut and crown reduction. Crown thinning refers to removing some branches and foliage to allow light to penetrate through a tree to trigger growth and openness. Crown thinning also discourages snakes from breeding in a tree.

Crown lifting refers to the cutting down of lower shaggy and overgrown branches for safety purposes. Such branches can be a distraction to pedestrians or might even fall off easily causing harm to people and property. Lifting can also be done to enhance the appearance of a tree. Crown reduction or topping is simply reducing the size of a tree’s height or width or both.

This can be done to reduce shade at a property or to create a larger clearance area at a homestead. Heading back cut involves cutting the top of a tree to increase its strength and density.

The following guidelines will help you if you plan on pruning tree or if you just want to educate yourself about tree trimming techniques.
  1. Crown thinning. If you plan to crown thin, keep the lateral branches as evenly spaced as possible, prune away branches crossing each other and never remove more than one-fourth of a crown at once.
  2. Crown lifting. If you cut away too many branches at the bottom, the tree may not develop a strong stem. Maintain live branches on least two-thirds of the tree height.
  3. Crown reduction. If you plan to remove half or more foliage on a tree branch, just cut away the whole branch. Cutting away half or more foliage on a branch will definitely kill it.
  4. Heading back cut. It is advisable that you let a tree grow to the desired height before cutting its top since it might not grow again in height.

However, it is essential to seek services and advice from experts while dealing with large trees or emergency situations. Doing a proper online research about the available tree service companies in your region and comparing their charges will definitely help you settle on the cheapest rates. Getting Trees Ready For Winter

Winter is often a harsh and cold season for trees. Winter is associated with stunted growth or even death for trees if they are not taken care of. It is essential that a property owner prepares his/her trees before the period to ensure that they survive. Below is a checklist that will help you prepare your tree for whichever kind of winter that Mother Nature can throw at them.
  1. Cleanup. Preparing your yard should be the first step, clear all dead trees, branches or even stumps. Uproot and discard or replant any wayward seedlings that have popped out close to your trees or property. Large branches, trees or stumps can be removed with the help of certified arborists.
  2. Prune. The will involve removing all the dead or dying branches or even foliage to fortify the strength of your trees. Heavy snow can settle on such branches causing them to break and fall on property or people leading to damages and injuries.
  3. Wrap the Trees. Leaves offer an extra layer of protection for trees, when they die, it is vital that you get an alternative to protect the tree. Wrapping your trees will protect them from winter sunscald and any other winter conditions that damage tree barks.
  4. Water. Just like the summer season, winter is also associated with drought. Ice and snow prevent trees from getting the necessary moisture for survival. It is essential for a tree owner to water the trees during the fall months.
  5. Mulching. Applying mulch around your trees after watering them will retain moisture in the surrounding soil which will support the trees during the dry winter. The mulch will also regulate the soil temperatures around the tree preventing extreme cold.
  6. Apply fertilizers. The soil tends to loose moisture between the hot summer and cold winter. Slow-release fertilizers should be applied in autumn to sustain the trees in winter.

The Las Vegas dessert can get pretty harsh. If you need help with any tree services, call us at Las Vegas Tree Trimmers. Details and phone number is below this article.

6/14/2017

Picture
As much as growing trees looks easy, maintaining tree health is a sophisticated process that requires professional care, and that is just what tree service companies’ offer. In order to receive the very best professional tree services, it is vital that you identify a good tree service company.

Getting an honest and fair tree service bid ensures that you are not overcharged and you receive value for your money. Below are specific questions you will need to ask any tree service company to ensure that you get a fair and honest tree service bid.
  1. Look for credentials and licensure. Tree service companies are issued licenses only after they have met the minimum requirements for operation. An unlicensed company may consist of unqualified arborists who can cause a lot of damage to your property. Expect to be offered lower fees by unlicensed arborists as compared to licensed ones.
  2. Ask for referrals. You need to ask each company under evaluation for referrals from their previous customers. This is the best way to know what to expect and the level of satisfaction of their former clients.
  3. Employee experience and training. Inquire about employee’s background. Well trained arborists with years of experience will definitely provide qualified services compared to poorly trained and inexperienced ones. It is also vital to note that well trained and experienced arborists charge more for their services as compared to undertrained ones.
  4. Compare the charges. While researching, you will definitely come across companies that charge a flat fee for services such as tree removal plus stump grinding. Other might charge an extra fee for stump removal.
  5. Insurance. It is a gamble to hire a company without an adequate insurance coverage.  You should ensure that a company has both liability and worker compensation insurance. Liability insurance will cover for your damaged property while worker compensation will cover for both you and the companies’ employees in case injuries are sustained.
  6. Get an estimate. Ask for a printed estimate of the job, this will ensure that you are not charged an extra buck for services you did not ask for.
  7. Available equipment. You should also make sure that the company you wish to hire has the necessary equipment for the job you have. Large and complicated equipment requiring trained manpower for operation cost more for hire as compared to simple tree care tools.

Note that the lowest bid might not be the safest and best to provide you with quality tree care, specialized tree care services tend to cost more as compared to the average services.

Why is tree service not a DIY Project

6/13/2017

Tree care is a complicated process that lasts as long as a tree exists on your property. The unremitting cost of tree care services can be daunting. Most of us like to save money and take pride in the tasks or projects we do by ourselves.

Tree planting, pruning, trimming and transplanting may sound easy when said but what most people forget are the risks involved while undertaking such projects on your own. The undeniable fact is that most property owners lack the proper equipment and the required knowledge to safely conduct tree care services. Each year, we hear unfortunate stories of many homeowners getting serious injuries or even killed while attempting these dangerous tasks on their own.

It takes both time and professional training about tree physics and technology to gain the proper knowledge on how to remove a large tree. Felling a tree requires more than just using a chainsaw and yelling to clear a drop zone. Proper cuts and incisions are supposed to be made and a rope used for anchorage in order to ensure that a tree falls in the desired direction. Felling a tree without the above skills can result in serious injuries, death and even destruction of property.

There is also the risk of unknown and unexpected hazards. Arborists are always trained on situational awareness; they are always ready and always anticipating for a possible danger. The experience gained in their day to day field experience enables them to recognize potential hazards that untrained property owners might not. Average property owners also lack the necessary skills of operating simple machinery such as a chainsaw.

Most property owners exert too much pressure and eventually lose control of dull chainsaws. Others use chainsaws to cut branches on the ground risking kickback injuries and even damage to the chainsaw. It is advisable to always seek professional advice and services from arborists while embarking on dangerous tree services.

Braces or Cables: What Should You use For Trees

6/12/2017

Tree leaning can be as a result of weak limbs, loose soil or some structural deficiencies which might not be visible. Such trees pose a potential hazard to people and property, especially in windy and stormy weather. If you don’t plan on removing your leaning tree, cabling or bracing is an option that can hold a leaning tree securely into position. Reasons that can necessitate cabling or bracing include;
  1. Hazard reduction. A leaning tree is a ticking time bomb that can cause injuries to pedestrians and your property. Cabling and bracing will prevent them from uncontrolled falling.
  2. Restoration. This can be done to extend the life of a valued tree.
  3. Preventing breakage. V-shaped crotches and co-dominant stems have a tendency of breaking under pressure. Cabling or bracing can prevent such breakages.
  4. Young tree. Such trees have weak stems which can easily break in stormy conditions.

Cabling refers to installing flexible steel cables or rods in trees to increase their structure strength to enable them to withstand stress from storm weather, snow, ice and heavy foliage. Cabling is mainly done to restrict movement of branches which can break under stress. Unlike bracing, cabling is done on only mature and big trees. Steel rods can be drilled between V-shaped branches to firmly hold them together preventing movement. Dynamic cables can also be used to strengthen healthy trees that don’t stand a risk of failing.

Bracing, on the other hand, involves the use of steel cable strands and rods to anchor young and mature trees that risk failing. Young trees with weak and immature stems can easily break in windy conditions; they can be braced by using four rods anchored to the ground and providing support by bolting them to the young tree stem. Cable bracing can also be done on V-crotches of young trees which can break apart in stormy weather.

These two methods of providing support to health and failing trees are almost the same. It is vital to note that cabling is done on trees that require a stronger anchorage while bracing offers little anchorage.

Tree Safety and Removal

6/11/2017

Tree safety is imperative as it holds lives of people and property at stake. It is essential that any property owner with trees undergoes basic training about tree safety. With the basic knowledge you can easily assess the condition of a tree simply by looking at it.

Tree inspections are important to keeping trees safe in the event of:

Adverse weather

A preventative, inspection before a storm can save your tree once adverse weather hits. Old loose and decaying branches or trunks are a giveaway sign that your trees pose a safety hazard. Such branches or trees in general can easily fall in windy conditions causing harm to both people and property.

Hidden tree damage

Not all tree risks are easy to spot. Professional arborists are trained with the necessary skills for inspecting tree’s soil conditions, root system, overall health and other signs that influence a tree’s risk potential.
Remember to contact your local arborist if you notice signs of weakened trees or if you want an in-depth assessment of your green assets. Your arborist can recommend the best course of action for protecting your tree.

Tree Removal

Removing a tree is a decision that requires proper planning due to safety reason. An old, dying or dead tree can be removed due to safety, aesthetic and health reasons. They can also be removed if they interfere with driveways, utility wires, other trees, and buildings. Always seek help from professionals when removing large trees since the process requires ropes and mechanical equipment.

Steps
  1. Evaluate the surrounding. Ensure that there are no wires, building, fence or other trees that might be damaged in the process.
  2. Inspect the tree. Identify its natural leaning direction; this is where it will probably fall towards. Look out for dead or hanging branches that are hazardous and open wounds which might signify the presence of hollow points in the trunk. Such hollow or rotten trees should be removed by professionals since it’s hard to control the direction of the fall.
  3. Establish escape routes away from the expected fall line for safety purposes.
  4. Select a chainsaw for large tree and handsaw for smaller ones.
  5. Make 90 degrees V-shaped undercut notch rather than the typical 45 degrees to enable the tree to fall before the top and bottom of the undercut come together.
  6. Make a back cut on the opposite side of the undercut, 2 inches above the inch. This will release pressure on the back side allowing the tree to fall on its own.
  7. As the tree starts to fall, move back to your chosen escape route till it lies solidly on the ground.
  8. You can now start limbing. Start by removing bottom branches towards the top. Look out for spring poles that can bounce back and hit you, always cut them from their apex to avoid injury.
  9. Once you are done, you can cut the remaining log, 24 inches a piece if you plan to make firewood. Avoid running chainsaws into the ground by cutting the log halfway then rolling them to finish the cut.

It is imperative to note that falling tree can interfere with other people’s property leading to legal action. Finally, think twice before removing a tree since it might take a decade or more to replace it.

Commercial Tree Services

Bringing Trees Into Business

Aesthetics. This might not be the first thing that comes to mind when talking about business. But nowadays, commercial entities have given substantial attention to this aspect as it has a major effect on the impact a business makes whether be it on the eyes of the client or on their pockets.

Commercial owners’ main priorities should include the aesthetics of their property. Being the physical representation of an organization or company, the premises, which is the forefront of the company and is what faces the customer, must be inviting yet professional, and presentable. This is a glimpse into what possible clients are getting from commercial owners, therefore paying close attention to what faces customers property-wise is not for nothing. Owners interested in enhancing the overall look of their land often turn to tree services. Commercial tree services generally encompass the following:

1. Tree removal - the cutting down of a tree with a hack or chainsaw
2. Tree shaping – creating structures and shapes from the barks and leaves trees that it becomes more aesthetically pleasing
3. Stump grinding – the actual removal of the root
4. Land clearing – the general process of removing greeneries with a particular area that might pose as an obstacle
5. Landscape lighting – the art of placing lights in a garden or yard that would aesthetically improve the overall appearance of the area to make it more enticing to passerby’s or customers.

Not sure which process is necessary and suitable for your specific case?

This is where tree service providers come in to provide guidance. But proper guidance will only come from proper providers. Finding the right providers of these tree services is not as simple as it sounds. Entrusting your property into the wrong hands may be counterproductive. It is then imperative that owners interested in tree services check the background of the providers. More specifically, one should check the credentials.

A company must be able to provide employees that are properly trained, and if possible, arborists that are certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). It is also best to hire a company with a Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) Accredited Business. A sign that you have found a company or provider that you can entrust your property unto is having a tangible list of satisfied customers. Vague claims about being the best provider out there must be supported and backed up. In fact, claims like this should be a signal for you to be a bit more cautious.

As important as the condition and the aesthetics of a company’s land is to inviting and attracting possible clients, so is the condition of the equipment of the tree service provider. The cleanliness of their undamaged equipment must be what one eyes looks for immediately in the midst of showing interest to the tree service provider. This will, as said earlier, give you a glimpse into what you are receiving as a customer. If the provider seeks to seem more professional, they must know the importance of having a website in our digital age. In fact, the website’s condition may be almost as important as the equipment. Of course, this factor of having a website with good design may not be the most important thing to you as a possible client, but it is an asset for it is a sign that the provider takes its image seriously.
