 Stumps are relatively easy to remove and can be removed any time you wish. Ways to remove a stump.

Physical stump removal.
This is generally considered as the best solution and method of stump removal. The whole idea of removing the stump is to remove it entirely, but incase this is not possible, other methods can be put in place in order to meet your needs.
You can use a winch to pull out a stump when it comes to smaller trees. Anyone who knows how to use a winch can be hired to remove the stump safely. For leverage purposes, it is advisable to leave a small sized stub on the stump other than cutting it off to the ground level.

The stump can also be removed by use of a mini excavator. The advantage with this method is, the mini excavator removes the majority of the root system. Using this method, stump removal is easy if the tree is not cut down entirely. A small piece of the stump should be left off the ground in order to provide leverage to aid in removal.

If you’re considering to this method, you can either hire landscape experts or simply hire a mini-excavator expert.
Another alternative is using the machines known as Stump Grinders which will mechanically grind out the main root plate. You can hire a stump grinder but it’s potentially dangerous is only supposed to be used by gardeners who are confident enough that they can use the stump grinder safely. The only disadvantage about this removal method is that some roots will inevitably be left in the ground, although a majority of the part will be grinded down.

Chemical stump killers
Stump and root killers are currently on the market and most of them are those containing glyphosate.
The following are the tips you should follow to successfully remove your stump using stump killers.

• The best time to apply stump killers on your stump is from autumn to winter. Its highly not recommendable to use this kind of treatment in spring or early summer because the sup is rising.
• Always make sure you carefully follow the manufactures preferred method. The most common preferred method by manufactures is treating the entire cut surface of the stump. Start by drilling holes around the edge of the stump or use a chisel or axe to make wedge shaped incursions around the edge of the bark.  Fill these drilled holes or incursions with granules or brushes with the liquid weed killer.
• After applying a liquid weed killer directly to the stump, cover the whole top of the stump using a plastic sheet to keep off rain.
• You should note that weed killer is best applied to freshly cut stumps because live tissues are needed for its uptake.

Methods you should avoid.
We highly don’t recommend burning down of stumps. Moreover, Applying nitrate fertilizers won’t improve their burning qualities, or speed up rotting.
